87 – Townhouse 2, Mariánske námestie č. 2

Townhouse 2 was originally built in Renaissance style, but at the end of the 19th century, it was rebuilt in a style like the other houses. The earliest one dates back to 1779. The first known owners were the Tamáši family in the 17th century. One of them, John, was the mayor of the Žilina. Another was a writer. The history of the house is also connected with the Krušpier family. There was a wine shop in the house at the end of the 18th century. In the 19th century, the history of the house was linked to the well-known Spanyol family. They owned the house until 1917. The Spanyol family was one of two Jewish families allowed to live in the town, until 1848. Vojtech Spanyol, who founded the eye clinic in Žilina, was a member of this family. After the Second World War, there was a booksellers here for more than twenty years.
