Telesné pozostatky svätice Žofie Bosniakovej, ktoré boli uložené v Loretánskej kaplnke v Kostole sv. Martina v Tepličke nad Váhom dňa 1. 4. 2009 zapálil 31-ročný Žilinčan, ktorý sa v minulosti liečil na psychiatrii. Rakvu s telesnými pozostatkami vytiahol pred kostol, kde ju polial horľavou látkou a zapálil. Telo Žofie Bosniakovej úplne zhorelo. Tento rok v júni sa pripravovali veľkolepé oslavy 400-tého výročia jej narodenia. Šurianska rodáčka Žofia Bosniaková celý svoj život zasvätila dobročinnosti, založila hospic pre chorých a starala sa o chudobných i siroty. Bola nazývaná aj sväticou zo Strečnianskeho hradu. V príprave bol aj proces jej blahorečnia. Táto smutná udalosť zasiahla srdcia všetkých obyvateľov Slovenska, ktorí k nej skladali úctu. Zničenie ostatkov svätice Žofie Bosniakovej pociťujeme akoby jej smrť prišla práve teraz.

The remains of St. Zofia Bosniakova, housed in the Loretan Chapel of St. Martin in Teplicka nad Vahom, were set on fire on April 1st, 2009 by a 31 year-old man from Zilina who had been treated at a psychiatric hospital in the past. He brought the coffin, together with the remains of Zofia Bosniakova outside in front of the chapel, doused her remains with a flammable liquid and set her on fire. Her body was completely consumed by the flames in seconds and destroyed. Preparations for her 400th birthday celebration in June had already been underway. Born in Surany, Slovakia, Zofia Bosniakova devoted her life to charity-work. She established a hospice for the ill, cared for the poor and orphans, and was called the saint of Strecno castle. Preparations had also been in place for her beatification. This very sad event has taken the hearts of all Slovaks, especially those that held her in high reverence. The destruction of Zofia Bosniakova’s remains is being felt as if her death has finally come.
