Townhouse 13: This house is associated with the Tombor family in particular, who owned it in the 19th century. Ignác Tombor, an important pharmacist in Žilina bought the house for his own family to live in. He was also the father-in-law of Žilina historian Alexander Lombardini. The Tombors were originally from Bytčica and several branches of the family lived in Žilina. Ignác Tombor and family were supporters of the Hungarian revolutionary movement in the struggle for the rights of Hungarians. This was particularly true during the revolutionary years of 1848-1849 when Ignác Tombor was commander of the local Košut Guards. He also fought against the Slovak army of volunteers led by Hurban, Štúr and Hodža. In the 18th century the house had been owned by the Cainer family (Steiner). In 1752 Michal Folkman bought the house from Anton Cainer for 500 gold coins. His descendent, Ignác and Maria, owned the house until 1839, when it was sold to Ignác Tombor for 3800 golden coins.
Ignác Tombor owned the house until 1879, when it was inherited by his four children who kept it until 1909. They then sold it for 32,000 crowns to Leopold Neumann, a glassware trader, and his wife Rosalia Spitzer. When Leopold Neuman died in 1926, the house remained the property of his wife and from 1936 until nationalization it was owned by Margita Neuman-Horák. Before 1990 there had been a jewellery and gift shop plus apartment on the first floor.
Townhouse no. 13 is a terraced house on the north side of the square with an original stone cellar with arcades at the ground floor level. The rooms on the ground and first floors and also in the basement retain their original barrel vaulting and lunettes. The features that remain indicate that alterations were made in the 16th century after a fire in 1521 meant the whole square had to be rebuilt. Renaissance architecture was used in the rebuilding. During the third phase of construction the building was lengthened and extended inwardly by the construction of large flat ceiling areas on the right-hand aisle and with a corridor running parallel in the left-hand aisle. In the fourth phase of development after a fire in 1886 two skylights were built into the vaulting of the hall and at the rear of the former smokehouse in the right-hand aisle.
The house is single-storey with a triaxial facade. It was listed back in 1963 in ÚZKP as number CP no. 1403 /0. The original low-pitched shed-roof facing the square added by the owners of the house after the great fire of Žilina in 1886 was replaced with a gable roof facing the square, which was built when it was completely renovated in 2012. The other houses on the historical square all had similar roofs until the 1990s, when original-style roofs with high gables facing the square were added, making the square look superior. The building is currently used as a restaurant.
